Product Review: I Go for Chobani, and a Giveaway

July 6, 2010 · 26 comments

Have you had Greek yogurt? If you like any kind of yogurt, Chobani Greek Yogurt is worth checking out.

Chobani yogurts are all natural, containing no preservatives or artificial flavors. The milk used for this yogurt is free of synthetic growth hormones, and the yogurt is gluten-free and certified kosher. It’s also full of protein and calcium.

Just so you know, when eating the fruit-flavored ones, you’re meant to scoop from the bottom, picking up the fruity flavors at the bottom that mix with the yogurt. This allows for much more sweetness to come through, rather than stirring it.

Nonfat:

  • Plain: I’ve enjoyed the thick and creamy plain nonfat Chobani for a long time. It has a tart flavor which pairs well with cereals, fruits, and nut butters, and stands well alone.
  • Vanilla: Has a good vanilla flavor, but is a bit chalky in texture.
  • Honey: I wasn’t sure whether there would be honey at the bottom, or if it would be mixed in. It’s mixed in, and I thought it tasted pretty similar to the vanilla flavor. It has a nice flavor that complements all kinds of toppings, but it was a little bit chalky too.
  • Strawberry: A little bit too sweet, but loads of fruit on the bottom, which I like.
  • Blueberry: Great blueberry flavor, and whole blueberries in this one.
  • Raspberry: I really liked this one, with a smooth raspberry flavor.
  • Pomegranate: I love the pomegranante seeds in this one, but find the fruit to be a bit too jellied.
  • Peach: I thought I’d really like this one, but it didn’t have enough fruit for my liking. The taste was good though, and it has small pieces of peach in it.

Lowfat:

  • Plain: I have been unable to locate the lowfat plain yogurt in my region, but will be sure to try it when it becomes available, and will add my review to it here.
  • Pineapple: I had heard so many people rave about this one, so I was excited to try it. Unfortunately, I don’t really care for pineapple in my yogurt. I liked the thickness of the yogurt, but the combo didn’t appeal to me.
  • Strawberry Banana: This flavor was really decadent and rich, probably because it was made with cream. The flavor tasted like both strawberry and banana, and has loads of fruit on the bottom.

As I mentioned, I already buy the nonfat plain kind quite often. I love topping it with cereal or granola and nut butter and fruit; mixing it into a smoothie; putting a dollop of it on a potato, sweet potato, chili, or quesadilla; and substituting it for sour cream in recipes. I’ll be adding the strawberry banana, blueberry, and raspberry ones to my shopping cart too.

*Some items of note:

  • I received these products as free samples from Chobani.
  • My reviews are my honest opinion; I want readers to know what I truly think of a product.
  • The items I choose to review meet my standards for healthy living and fitness.

I've actually never tried Chobani yogurt. I used to absolutely love greek yogurt (it's one of the only things I really miss about eating dairy!) but my yogurt of choice was Fage. :) What I love about greek yogurt is how thick it is and how tart it is as well :D Too much yogurt now is so sweetened and icky and especially the fruit flavored ones are super artificial tasting.

I've never had this yogurt before, but love yogurts in baked goods especially. I'm all about the honey scented blueberry muffin recipe on the Chobani website. Nothing beats a good old, traditional blueberry muffin :)
